A personal care home is considered to be  “any dwelling, whether operated for profit or not, which undertakes through its ownership or management to provide or arrange for the provision of housing, food service, and one or more personal services for two or more adults with physical or medical restrictions due to age or disability.  These are NOT CLA homes.  The individuals being cared for cannot be related to the owner or administrator by blood or marriage; ‘Personal Services’ includes, but is not limited to, individual assistance with or supervision of self-administered medication, assistance with ambulation and transfer, and essential activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.”

How to Become A Developmental Disabilities Home Provider

Altrus, Inc. is a well-established and highly respected provider of community based assisted living throughout Georgia. Building on that foundation of quality service provision, Altrus has been approved by Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) to provide Community Residential Alternative (CRA) Services in a Host Home/Life Sharing model. In this model, individuals with developmental disabilities are able to live and share life experiences with supportive people who form a caring family and household. This option provides a highly desired alternative to hospital or residential group placement and is based on the importance of enduring and permanent relationships as the foundation for learning life skills, developing self esteem, and learning to exist interdependently with others.

This step is considered the first step in a process toward independence for developmentally disabled adults. DD host home providers supply watchful care and oversight as well as training in daily living skills, money management, emergency situation skills and responsible community behavior. Host homes are maintained by contracts with individuals who wish to become home providers under the supervision of Altrus Assisted Living.  We must complete a TELEPHONE SCREENING with all individuals wishing to become home providers. Please use the contact form to the top right or call Catrina Harris at 912.354.6011.
